Registered Liquid owners can upgrade to Avid Media Composer bundle for $399 for download of MC4 or $499 for a box version with the Productivity Pack till June 30, 2010. You must have been a registered Liquid owner as of March 10. Check your registration You will need your Avid registration email address and password This is a great price - new this product sells for
$2500 - and includes the production pack of Avid DVD by Sonic, Avid FX
(aka Boris Red), Boris
Continuum Complete, SmartSound Sonicfire Pro and Sorenson Squeeze. In
order to get the bundle with all that software, you must buy through the Avid
store using the Liquid promo code you get in an email from Avid. To complicate things a bit, Avid has announced MC5 - which was suppose to be (and actually was) available June 10th. Customers that have already purchased or are planning to purchase the Avid Liquid to Avid Media Composer v4 upgrade between 3/10/10 and 6/30/10 will be eligible for a free download version of Avid Media Composer v5. Customers must register their Media Composer v4 software BEFORE JUNE 30 and DOWNLOAD Media Composer v5. the upgrade BEFORE JUNE 30. THAT IS 2 HARD TO MEET DATES IF YOU ARE PURCHASING IN LATE JUNE ! Waiting to purchase the upgrade until MC5 is released is probably not a good idea. First of all, the offer was a Liquid to MC4 upgrade with the Production Pack, with an added bonus of being able to download MC5 when it becomes available. Waiting will probably not get you a more recent Production Pack, even if MC5 physically becomes available June 10th. And if Avid doesn't release MC5 till after June 30th, you could lose out on the whole deal - so why take the chance. There are
some caveats to the upgrade from Liquid. If you are a casual editor, it
might not be worth the price. There are hardware considerations, mostly video related - especially
if you are a laptop user or if you edit HD and are using ATI cards. MC
likes NVidea cards - and expensive ones at that. And while not a 64
bit app yet, more memory and power seems to add to the editing experience
with MC4. |
