| 5.5 Bugs needing Fixed
-

| We have listed
these bugs as a service to our members. This is a primarily a Liquid 5.5
site as Liquid 6 is too new for our evaluation. We support Liquid Edition
and feel it is a great piece of software. We are disappointed that fixes for
these issues as well as minor improvements did not come out for version 5.5
before the new version 6 was released. We have been told a 5.5 patch
(possibly called Liquid 5.6) will be released now that 6.0 has been
released. We support Pinnacle and their employees and appreciate their
dedication and hard work. This is great software and our objective is to
help make it even better. We will correct any inaccuracies in this posting
as soon as we know. Please let us know if you have additional issues or
fixes or other comments. Contact Us Here. Tony Terrana, author of Dive Into Liquid Edition,
has provided some insight to many of the issues listed in our bug report-
thanks Tony ! I think his
big point is that current graphics card driver, chipset driver, direct X
update, bios updates are important to assisting with trying to resolve some of these
issues. He says Liquid Edition is like a race car. It is on the cutting-edge
of technology, and requires a reasonable amount of preventative maintenance
such as driver updates, a clean windows environment, and defragmentation.
(User Comment: Good insight - of course when we bought it we were
hoping it would run on our current machine that met Pinnacle's specs for 5.5
without having to have the latest and most up to date equipment.) |

| Liquid 5.5 is not supported for Windows XP
Service Pack 2 |
Some users have installed SP2 and have no
issues. Others have had issues. Pinnacle support has announced that it will
not support SP2 with Liquid 5.5. We feel Liquid 5.5 should support SP2 as
SP2 is a recommended upgrade for XP. |
| Pixel shift on Snapshot capture |
Snapshot a clip with an applied effect and
there is a shift when the clip is placed on the timeline. Right now you have
to inactivate all effects on clips before snapshoting if you don't want that
pixel shift. This happens for sure for some with the Radeon 8500 Pro
Card that comes with 5.5 Liqud Pro - and may happen with some other video
cards, but not all. |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion - I've seen this with
some graphics cards, but if the effect has been rendered out, the slice at
the top of the timeline is green, then the snapshot shouldn't have the
pixelshift. (Note: although this is a good suggestion, on my machine
with the 5.5 ProCard I still get this issue even after the top slice is
green.) |
| Audio Editor not refreshing after modification
- |
When you modify in audio editor from timeline, you
have to exit editor and toggle sound icon (or any icon) on the track to
update the modification to play correctly from timeline.

Tony Terrana Suggestion: .... using the
audio ramps works if you are having issues with the crossfade. Try using
CTRL+Click when you are holding your mouse over the volume line of the
audio. Now, I will note that the audio undo doesn't work, and has not since
version 1. I would love to see that fixed. Otherwise, I simply mark in and
out the range on my timeline with the keyframes and use the delete audio
keyframes within range button. (Note: this bug is mentioned in Paul
Mitton's "Mind Meld" training DVD) |
| Audio undo doesn't work |
|
| Timeline may need manual refresh to green after a
render. |
|
| Rendering needs to be deleted then updated on copies of
sequences or containers |
After creating containers or opening
containers from a copied sequence to a new sequence, video displays clips
not on timeline at that edit point. Deleting rendered files and re-rendering
appears to fix the issue - so it is assumed the render files are becoming
somewhat scrambled. |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion:I have seen this with some
graphical formats and quicktime files. I've found simply dragging and
dropping any one of the files in question to anyplace on the timeline and
then deleting it forces Edition to relink to the "lost" media links.
(Note: This error is not a relinking error but an error in displaying
rendered files on the timeline) |
| Relinking Lost Media links requires
dragging a file to timeline and then deleting |

| stuidomod error |
Unknown causes, usually observed during
edits when certain functions (moves, copies, inserts) are not responding
correctly. Upon exit of Edition, the Studiomod errors shows up |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion: Inevitably no matter what
system you have, crashes will happen. I've had a system lock up on Microsoft
Word before. I find that when I have a lockup the fastest way to get back to
where I was is to press CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to processes and end the studio.mod
process, this takes way less time then ending the task. Also, sometimes
rebooting your system does not clear out all of the mess in the RAM on your
motherboard and GPU, the caches on your hard drives and CPUs. Sometimes the
best solution for getting back to where you were is to do a complete
shutdown. This clears out all of the above mentioned hardware, and gives you
a fresh operating environment to work in. Liquid Edition is like a race
car. It is on the cutting-edge of technology, and requires a reasonable
amount of preventative maintenance such as driver updates, a clean windows
environment, and defragmentation. |
| ToolTip lockup error |
All of the sudden Liquid stops working or
at the end of an editing session where you have to END the program,
you get a Tooltip error saying ToolTip is not responding. It seems to
be almost like the canary in a mine in that when it goes, something more
serious is at hand.

| Delete Media Inconsistencies |
You capture a media clip, then another. In
project manager you decide to delete the first media clip, you choose clip
and media file, LE55 asks if you really want to, you say YES, the picon for
the first clip is gone and you get an large ! in the second clip and it has
been deleted also. File manager reveals original medial of both clips have
been deleted |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion: The only
time I've seen this sort of thing is when one uses the same reel and has the
same timecode on their tape. LE deals with metadata, rather than the actual
video files. So, if you have reel 1 and some clips from reel one that have
overlapping time code, then you will delete all the files in the overlapping
time code region when you delete one. This can be confusing, but can easily
be avoided through constant timecode, and reel organization |
| Smoothness of Pan and Scan not up to par |
to many users, the smoothness is not on
the same par as those of Premier Pro |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion: I'm not a Premier PRO user, so I can't
directly comment, but I would say the pan and scan is on par or above with
Adobe After Effects. That goes for the slow motion with mixed fields as
well. The Pan and Scan is a sub-pixel render when used with the classic 2D
or 3D editors, and is of a very high quality. I have noticed some jerkiness
with certain graphics, and have been able to alleviate that issue by going
into the options tab of the effect editor and choosing render frames rather
than fields.

| DVD- Audio Crackling |
Web Board Link |
| |
Tony Terrana Suggestion: I had the same issue in 5.5 DVDs, and was
able to alleviate this issue by using a recording program like Record Now to
burn the image file that Edition creates. Also note that Pinnacle did post a
number of updates relating to DVD burning and compatibility for 5.5 that
addressed some of these similar issues. Also, you will note that DVDs
created in 6.0 are infinitely more compatible with set-top DVD players than
those created in v5.5. Mostly do to AC3 audio encoding, but other issues
also seem to be resolved. v6 does seem to have some audio issues with
imported audio. Until they release a patch for this I would suggest
deactivating all tracks and fusing the problem audio without any edits on
it. This gets the audio into a format that Edition fully understands in
conjunction with your current hardware/software situation, and
full/non-problematic editing is then possible.
Other Suggestions: Crackling seemed to occur when Keyframes and audio fx were
placed on seperate audio tracks. The only workaround was to dump the
timeline to tape and recapture it on to combined tracks. It was the render
to burn or the fuse operations which induced the audio crackle. LE 6 is said
not to have problems with this issue. |
| DVD- Burn Multi-Copies does not work |
If you check make multiple copies in burning a DVD, it never allows you to
make multiple copies. |
| Image 1 PCM audio out of Sync |
When Burning Iamage as DVD with Image1, you need to use MP2 and should have
CRC checked. Using PCM the audio is out of sync. |
| Undo for Audio Does not Work |
|
|
Linear Timewarp Editor |
Can't create dissolves when you used it. You have to fuse the sequence first
and then dissolve... |
| |
Other Suggestions: This is probably some system problem as it
does not occur on most machines |
| Audio Volume Control does not work |
On machines using the Pro card, the audio volume control icon on the
bottom toolbar does not work |

| apply duration change to multiple clips |
If you have to change duration on multiple clips on timeline, you have
to do it one at a time. Even in 6.0 you still have modify duration of
clips on the timeline one at a time. (You copy the clips to a rack in
6.0 you can change duration for the entire rack - then paste the rack back -
still clumsy) |
| absolute and variable keyframes |
when you keyframe a clip and then modify it's length, the
keyframes adjust to new length and timing is modified. An absolute keyframe
option would keep the keyframes as placed, even if clip's length was
modified. Very frustrating as while fusing the clip makes the keyframe
permanent, you lose the adjustable keyframes.

| Better media management with backup system |
One-Button" or "one-command" LE project archive or backup feature done
in 6.0 - limited to 4.6 gigs (no spanning of DVD's or CD's - which shouldn't
be a problem if you captured naming tapes correctly and you labeled your
tapes correctly. |
