Hard drives should be 7200 rpm.
Connect external 7200 rpm drives using firewire if possible -
firewire is better than USB for video editing. |

Consider using a 1920 x 1080 monitor connected via HDMI or DVI
cables. A lot of people seem to like 26" - 32" monitors.
Dual monitors are great too. |

Installation & Registration
& Activation - If you are using a
wireless connection, you may be changing the NIC that was used to
activate the system. Since the activation is based on your MAC
address, this will deactivate you. You can call into 1-800-800
2843 and choose Option#2 for installation / registration
help. It's a free call.

Disconnect from the Internet |
| |
You will find the entire application will run
smoother if, while Media Composer is running, you disconnect from
the Internet and disable your anti-virus and firewall software.
Also, for capturing longer segments, check your capture settings for
the longest capture default time - the factory default is 30 minutes
- you may want to increase that. - Larry Rubin |

re: installing updates:
I always run the AvidMediaComposer, AvidCodecsPE, AvidDIORuntime and
AVidCoreRuntime uninstallers every time. I'd also suggest
repairing permissions after the reboot.
