Tips on DVD Labels
Designing a good label is an art - but there are a few tips to think about...
- Include "DVD" on the label (to distinguish disks from a CD) - but do not
use the
label - you need a
license for that and it costs money.
- Include Running Time
- Include a version number somewhere (maybe after your name (see below)) -
like 1.1a or 2.0. That helps you later should you need to update the DVD and
want to know which version a client is using. And perhaps a production number
- like "001" - some place fairly inconspicuous. This helps if you are
supplying DVD's to a client based on specific orders and and you have no
control over duplication.
- Including a "Copyright" or "Do Not
Duplicate" may be worthwhile - although not needed - and don't put a copyright
on anything that isn't all yours (unless you have paid for the use). And if
you do have copyrighted music (shame on you) (although sometimes
somewhat unavoidable on wedding videos, etc.), you may want to put a
disclaimer in the video PLUS on the label that "musical recordings on this CD
personally owned by client" AND include "DO NOT DUPLICATE" and
perhaps "For Personal Use only !) both on the label and in credits or opening
logos in the DVD. If you put your logo/company info on a DVD using
copyrighted material and you made money on that DVD - you may have overstepped
tolerable limits that the owner of copyrighted material ignores.

- Include your logo or name or business name and telephone number fairly
SMALL (but not too small) on the label somewhere - you want someone to be able
to get in touch with you if they see the DVD and like it.
